We are always happy to accept applications for good Temporary Field Technicians.

Successful applicants must be in good physical condition and have experience performing archaeological fieldwork under a variety of field situations. Applicants should be able to accurately record field notes, identify artifacts, identify above and below ground archaeological features, draw sketch maps, and use GPS. NSA uses digital technology for field recordation and experience with digital technologies is a plus.

The position requires extensive physical exertion such as brisk hiking for hours over heavily wooded and sometimes challenging terrain in outdoor heat and cold conditions, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and ability to excavate at least 1 cubic meter per day. Good communication and team skills are important.

NSA Standard rates range from $19.25 – $21.25 an hour, depending on level of experience. Federal wage-determined projects have a higher rate and depend on project location. Per diem and lodging costs are covered for all fieldwork, excepting local projects with contract restrictions.

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or a closely related field. Recommended qualifications include the completion of an accredited field school and past field experience.
