Chelsey Johnson, MA

Chelsey Johnson joined New South in 2025 as a Senior Architectural Historian. She holds dual M.A. degrees in Appalachian Studies and Public History from Appalachian State University, as well as a B.A. in Computer Science and Mathematics from Maryville College. She has conducted Cultural Resource Management work in states across the southeast and Mid-Atlantic, with a special focus on the history and architectural fabric of the Appalachian Mountain region. Her graduate research focused on Appalachian foodways and traditional folk arts, and she has a strong background in oral history and narrator-informed documentary work.
