Jillian Smittle serves as the Assistant Lab Manager at the San Mateo VCP. Jillian served in the United States Air Force for 6 years as a Security Forces Officer, separating from active duty in 2022. She completed one deployment to Cyprus and also served in Poland and Spain as a presidential security detail. Jillian has worked with the American Veteran Archaeology Recovery Program as an archaeologist on a battlefield site in Sicily, excavating the remains of a WWII pilot. Jillian’s most recent fieldwork experience was working on an Indigenous burial site in Texas. Jillian is currently enrolled at City College of San Francisco, working towards her BA in Anthropology. Her main passion is archaeology, where she would like to incorporate a focused approach towards engaged anthropology by addressing sustainable environmental practices and the sociopolitical issues she finds important.
