Lydia Simpson joined New South Associates in 2022 and serves the company as a Senior Historian. She has a B.A. in History from University of Alabama at Birmingham, an M.A. in History from Middle Tennessee State University, and received a Ph.D. in Public History from Middle Tennessee State University. Her experience includes architectural history, historic structure reports, and heritage tourism assessments, site interpretation, oral history, and public outreach. Dr. Simpson has worked with the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, the Center for Historic Preservation, Middle Tennessee State University, and the Stones River National Battlefield. Agencies she’s worked with include, the National Park Service, USACE, and Tennessee Department of Transportation. She has also collaborated with numerous local historical societies, local municipal governments, and other non-profit organizations such as Tennessee Historical Commission, Rutherford County, Tennessee, and the Cities of Athens, Tennessee, Rome, Georgia and Owingsville, Kentucky.
