Matt Colvin joined New South Associates in 2021 and serves as an Archaeologist. He received his B.S. and M.A in Anthropology from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and is currently finishing a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Georgia. Matt has worked primarily in the American southeast and is skilled in traditional excavation techniques, coring, radiocarbon procurement and pretreatment strategies, and Bayesian modeling of radiocarbon dates. His research interests include Indigenous archaeology, settlement archaeology, Hunter-Gatherer lifeways, chronology building, cooperation and collective action, and trade networks. Matt has conducted fieldwork in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Belize.
