Marie Pokrant joined New South in 2020 and serves as Principal Investigator. She has nearly two decades of experience in Cultural Resource Management, conducting survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring projects on precontact and historic archaeological sites in the Southeast, Midwest, and Northeast. Ms. Pokrant received her B.A. in Anthropology and her M.A. in History/Historical Archaeology from the University of West Florida in Pensacola. During her career, Ms. Pokrant has assisted numerous clients, including the Florida Department of Transportation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and private sector energy and transmission companies. Her areas of interest include colonial archaeology, nineteenth-century domestic sites/farmsteads, and urban archaeology. She has training in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, Section 4(f) Compliance for Historic Properties, and Preservation Planning and Policy Development for Historic Roads. Ms. Pokrant has worked in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and New York. Her other professional experiences include the relocation of a historic cemetery in Carroll County, Kentucky and archaeological monitoring at the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
