Stefan Brannan has been with New South Associates since 2006 and serves the company as a Director of Archaeology. A Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA), he has handled archaeological survey, testing, data recovery, public outreach, and consultation with state, federal, and tribal agencies. He has a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, a B.A. in Archaeology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an M.S. in Archaeological Resource Management from the University of Georgia, and has received a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Georgia. Stefan has extensive experience in total station recordation, numerous shallow geophysical survey techniques, coring, and GIS applications in addition to the traditional tools and methods of the trade (excavation, screening, orienteering). His areas of knowledge include southeastern United States prehistory, settlement archaeology, lithic technology, prehistoric pottery analysis, regional survey, mortuary archaeology, and Bayesian analysis of radiocarbon dates.

Mr. Brannan has conducted projects on behalf of numerous state and federal agencies, including several state Departments of Transportation, the University of Georgia, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the National Forest Service, the National Park Service, and Georgia Power. He has worked in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, France, and Mexico.
