Alison Shepherd (B.A. in Anthropology with a focus in Archaeology, Emory University) currently serves as the Artifacts Laboratory Manager in the Augusta VCP and is responsible for the rehabilitation of artifacts from archaeological investigations. She has worked in public archaeology and cultural resource management for several years, and has conducted fieldwork in Spain, Illinois, Maryland, and Iowa. She has a great deal of experience in archaeological education and public outreach. In Illinois, she worked with the Center for American Archaeology, a non-profit organization that focuses on archaeological education. In Maryland, she worked with St. Mary’s College of Maryland and helped conduct the Piscataway Landscapes Survey. Funded by the Maryland Historical Trust, this project involved working with local native groups from Southern Maryland to find archaeological sites significant to the Piscataway Peoples. Her professional interests include the anthropology of death and mortuary archaeology, particularly monumental mortuary features.
